Richard Storey Holstad

Richard Storey Holstad, 86, of Northwood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. He was born on July 5, 1934 to Otto and Margaret (Storey) Holstad at their home in rural Northwood. He was baptized and confirmed at Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. He graduated from Kensett High School in 1952. Richard married Helen (Vaage) on August 19, 1956 in Kensett, Iowa, and together raised their daughters Marcia and Kari on their farm west of Northwood. Richard was a lifelong resident of Worth County and was proud to have achieved the milestone of farming for 60 years before retiring. He was active in his churches, both Sion Lutheran and Silver Lake Lutheran churches, Kensett Lion's Club and the Democratic Party, serving as a Worth County Supervisor for a term. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen of Northwood, daughters Marcia of Ankeny, Iowa, and Kari (Jim) Maas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and grandchildren Hayden and Paige of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Orin, Waldo and Arden, sisters in law Mary Lou, LaVonne and Karen, and infant son Russell. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 16 at 3:00pm. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16 from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home at 1211 10th St S in Northwood. Burial will be at Sion Lutheran Church at a later date in the spring.
