Rodger Curran Martin

Rodger C. Martin, age 96, formerly of Floyd, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Osage, Iowa, after a brief illness. He was a graduate of Britt, Iowa High School in 1947, and farmed his family’s land in Britt, until he moved to Floyd, Iowa in 1977, where he continued to farm corn and soybeans until he retired in 2018. After high school, he served in the US Army Reserve during the Korean War (1951-1953) and was stationed in Africa where he enjoyed several hunting trips with his fellow servicemen. In 1961 he married his wife Doris Tibbits, from Fertile, Iowa. Together they raised their two children, Sarah and Robert, on their farms in Britt and Floyd. Farming was his life and was what he enjoyed the most in life. Even when he retired, he was still active in the financial operations of the farm. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Martin (Tibbits); parents, Robert and Laura Martin; three brothers, Ralph Martin, John Martin, Jim Martin; three sisters, Eleanor Martin, Anna Lou Martin and Isabel Parker. He is survived by his son, Robert Martin; daughter, Sarah Smith (Tim); two grandchildren, Dustin Martin and Tasha Block, and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the First Congregational Church in Orchard, Iowa, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., with Pastor Jan Tjaden officiating. The burial will be held at the Orchard Cemetery.
