Mary E. Geistler, age 83, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa. Mary was born on February 13, 1941, in Mason City, IA, the daughter of Conrad “Tony” and Berneice Weitzel. Mary graduated from Albert Lea High School and worked many hours on a local farm picking potatoes during her time there. Mary joined the Navy in 1960 and was stationed at the U.S Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During her service, she completed Medic training. Mary was honorably discharged in 1962 to focus on raising her children. For 26 years, Mary worked at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, IA starting as a nurse’s aide, later becoming a certified nurse’s aide, and eventually transitioning into the role of a physical therapy aide before retiring in 2004. She had a deep passion for helping others, and the nursing home became her second family. Mary served as a den leader for the Northwood Cub Scouts and played for a local slow-pitch softball team for several years as their pitcher. She enjoyed watching and attending all of her children’s school activities. In her free time, Mary enjoyed cross-stitching, needle point, and reading – she was an avid fan of Stephen King’s books. Above all, she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by her children, Perry (Jennifer) Geistler of Manchester, MO, Carla Faught of Mason City, IA, Jim (Deann) Geistler of Norwalk, IA, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her son’s Terry and Robert. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, IA. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
