Olga Mary Thurnau

Olga Thurnau, age 92, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Olga was born to John and Mary (Weber) Duren on December 14, 1931, in Meyer, Iowa. She was baptized in Meyer and attended school at Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville where she grew up. Olga married John Thurnau, Jr. on May 16, 1951, when he was home on Navy leave. To this union eight children were born. Olga was a busy farmwife and homemaker. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, preserving, baking, and caring for a large family. Being an active member of the St. Ansgar Catholic Church was very important to her, and in recent years, at Visitation Church in Stacyville. Olga joined her husband on many excursions, entertaining with his small country band. Music, dancing, and card-playing were a big part of their family events. Olga is survived by her children, Rick (Judy) Thurnau of St. Ansgar, Ron (Denise) Thurnau of Scarville, Bonnie Morse of Elma, Pam (Curt) Lonergan of Rose Creek, MN, Mary (Jay) Adams of Stacyville, Sherry (John) Hemann of Stacyville, Scott (Julie) Thurnau of Zumbrota, MN; 20 grandchildren, Jennifer, Allison, Jeremiah, Christian, AJ, Jaime, Jared, Kristi, Kayci, Toni, Michelle, Jessica, Adam, Dustin, Jonas, Gina, Nicole, Paula, Carrie, and Cassie; and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Duren; husband, John Thurnau, Jr.; son, Steven; grandson, Brett Black; and eight brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa. A rosary service will take place at 9:00 a.m. Visitation will follow at 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass. Interment will be held at St. Ansgar City Cemetery.
