Avis L. Hanson, age 96, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Good Samaritan, in St. Ansgar. Avis was born on October 29, 1927, in Toeterville, Iowa, to Fred and Myrtella (Sampson) Langrock. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Toeterville. Avis attended school in Union Township and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1945. After graduating high school, she went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa and taught at rural schools for several years. On July 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leo Hanson at the Lutheran Church in Toeterville. The couple farmed on the same farm north of Toeterville for 30 years. In 1976 they moved to St. Ansgar and became members of the United Methodist Church. In 1993 Avis retired from her job as a dietary supervisor at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar, where she had worked for 26 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a past president treasurer, and membership chairman. She has also served on many committees for the U.M.W. Family gatherings were always special to her, where she would joyfully prepare food and lead sing-alongs to her favorite song, "Behold the Host" – “Den Store Hvide Flok.” Avis cherished these moments and the love she shared with her family. Avis is survived by her son, Dennis (Mary) Hanson of St. Ansgar, IA; daughter, Lisa Hansen of St. Ansgar, IA; three grandchildren, Leslie ( Dr. Dan MD) Gavrila of Wausau, WI, Clark Jorgensen of St. Ansgar, IA, Nick (Ashley) Hanson of St. Ansgar, IA; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden and Owen Gavrila, Clay Jorgensen, Alannah and Ezrah Hanson, Connor, Mehki, and Avah Springer; sister, Audrey Carroll; brother, David Langrock, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Leo Hanson; parents, Fred and Myrtella Langrock; brother, Fredrick Langrock, and son-in-law Jeff Hansen. A graveside burial will be held at a later date.
