Lyla Mae Gast

Lyla M. Gast, age 99, of Osage, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Lyla Gast was born March 15, 1925, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Florence (Kindschuh) Hackbart. She graduated from Osage High School in 1942. On July 28, 1944, Lyla married Dick Gast at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osage. Lyla enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing piano, hosting bridge club, shopping at the dollar store, and trips to the casino. She was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching wrestling and baseball. Lyla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cooking and baking for her family and will be remembered by her grandchildren for making the best butterhorn rolls. Lyla is survived by her 3 children, Ron (Jane) Gast of Iowa City, Bruce (Cheryl) Gast of Osage, Del (Karen) Gast of Osage; 6 grandchildren Tracy (Angie) Gast, Trevor Gast, Ben (Kristina) Gast, Matt (Melanie) Gast, Carly Gast, Jessie (Brady) Horner; and 9 great grandchildren, Madison, Connor, Gavin, Teagan, Macy, Max, Ethan, Colby, and Shae. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Gast in 2008; and her daughter Nancy Lea Gast. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2nd with funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage. Burial will be held in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
