Carroll Allen “Nick” Nicol, age 91 of Osage, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his home in Osage. Carroll was born October 10, 1932, in rural Mitchell County to Morris and Goldie May (Korte) Nicol. He attended country schools before moving to Osage and graduating in the class of 1951. From 1952 to 1954 he served in the US Army as military police in Italy. Upon his return, he purchased the home of his grandparents, Adam and Kate Korte, where he lived with his mother. In 1969 he began working for the city of Osage, driving the street sweeper and plowing snow, until his retirement in 1995. In 1970 Nick met and married Lorene (Tibbits) Michels, sharing in the raising of her three young sons, Stephen, Jeffrey, and Russell. Daughter Laurie was born two years later. Nick enjoyed camping in his converted school bus, classic cars and tinkering on lawn mowers in his garage. He and Lorene delighted in visiting with friends and relatives. Nick was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Cedar Valley Memories and Blacktop Cruisers. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 52 years, Lorene, in June 2023, sisters Dorothy (Dale) Bublitz, Ruby (Bob) Tabor, Margaret Nicol, Edna (Marvin) Pitzen, Marilyn (Bob) Beyer, brother Kenneth (Mavis) Nicol and infant brother Marvin. Those left to cherish his memory include sons Steve, Jeff (Jane) and Rusty (Shari) Michels all of Osage; daughter Laurie Nicol of Cambridge, Minnesota; grandchildren Chris (Alicia), Chelsea (Jobe Goodale), Cassandra, Scott (Annie), Tom (Jennifer Riggs) and Joe Michels, Natalie (Neil) Bauer and Zach (Ashley) Michels; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Nye officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with military rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Champion Funeral Home.
