Michael “Mike” Sholly, age 72, of Osage, passed away Sunday, Feb 4, 2024, at Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at Champion Funeral Home in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. The burial will be at the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Champion Funeral Home. Mike was born on April 28, 1951 in Cherokee, Iowa to the late Vincent Sholly and Ilene Malzer. He was raised in Cherokee with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He graduated from Cherokee High School and later moved to Mitchell, Iowa where his father Vincent lived. He then met his wife Donna (Gunsallus) Sholly and got married June 7, 1980. They raised one child, Vanessa. Mike worked many years at Osage Manufacturing, eventually becoming a Plant Manager. He enjoyed his work and was known for coming in way early and sometimes on Saturdays just to get his work done in peace and quiet. He enjoyed hanging out with friends and enjoyed there Sunday morning “Gatherings” with some special friends. Mike loved watching whatever sport was on TV and westerns. He loved playing the game “Trouble” with the youngest grandkids and was known for his “cheating”. When he was younger, he enjoyed fishing and going up North to his uncle’s cabin. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Vincint Sholly and Ilene Malzer, stepfather Dennis Malzer, In-laws William and Maryann Gunsallus, sister Roxane Bute, and a very special aunt Ruthann Fangman and uncle Chuck Fangman. He is survived by his wife Donna (Gunsallus), Riceville; daughter Vanessa (Russ) Johnson, Riceville; grandkids, Makayla, Loni, Diesel, and Alexis; sister Debra Tyler, Louisiana; brother’s Edward (Maxine) Sholly, Osage, and Louis (Lori) Sholly, Sedalia, Missouri, and a brother-in-law Bill Bute. Many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center and their amazing staff for everything, especially towards the end.
