Mary Ann Klapperich passed away on February 1st, 2024, at the Stacyville Nursing Home. She was born on November 22, 1935, in Osage, Iowa to the late Arnold and Regina Koenigs. She was raised on the family farm in Meyer with her three brothers and four sisters. Mary Ann attended grade school in Meyer and graduated from Visitation High School in 1953. She then moved with friends to Rochester, MN where she lived and worked until marrying Norbert Klapperich on September 12, 1956. Norb and Mary Ann moved to Stacyville, Iowa where they spent 54 years together before Norb passed away on October 11, 2010. They raised six children – Steve, Lori, Dennis, Brian, Pam, and Tim. Mary Ann was a proud mother and grandmother, and was seen at many sporting, music, and other special events. Her home was always open to her children’s friends, her grandchildren, and other family. Mary Ann was hard working, having numerous jobs, including postal clerk for 29 years. She was very active in her church, singing in the choir, teaching CCD, and later in life re-teaching herself to play organ and piano and playing for church services. The community of Stacyville was very important to Mary Ann. She volunteered for various community groups and events. She spent a lot of time as a volunteer at the nursing home when she retired and before she became a resident there, also serving on their board. She delivered Meals on Wheels and raised awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society by planning and participating in the Mitchell County Relay for Life. She was an active member of the Mitchell County Concert Association. Mary Ann loved socializing as well. She had many lifelong friends and enjoyed spending time with them through bowling, card groups, dancing, golfing and music of any kind. She loved to laugh. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Norb, sons Steve and Brian, her parents, brothers Marvin, Gilbert, Bernie, and sister Bonita. She is survived by: daughter Lori (John Clarkson), son Dennis (Monique Aduddell), daughter Pam (Darren Groth), son Tim, and daughter-in-law Laura Klapperich ; grandchildren Allison (Brett) Russ, Ben (Grace) Klapperich, Kathy (Josh) Borders, Donald Clarkson, Emma Clarkson, Tess Clarkson, Josh (Briana) Groth, Taylor Groth, Caleb Groth; great-grandchildren Charlotte Borders, Gordon Groth, and Gus Klapperich; sisters Aggie Theobald, Geni Detviler, and Gerri (Rog) Fischer and sisters-in-law Eileen Koenigs and Judy Koenigs. The family would like to thank the staff at the Stacyville Nursing home for the care, support, and friendship they provided Mary Ann the last three years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Visitation Catholic Church from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., also at Visitation Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stacyville Nursing Home or Mitchell County Relay for Life.
