Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Northwood, Iowa. Harold was born on the family farm west of Northwood on February 23, 1936, to Helmer and Ione Quisley. Harold began attending school at the early age of 4 as his mother, Ione, was the country school teacher at the time. Upon the death of his mother in 1942, he moved to Slayton, MN living with his uncle and aunt Burt and Christine Quisley. At age ten, he returned to Northwood and lived with his father on the family farm west of Northwood. He was a confirmed member of the Silver Lake Lutheran church and, upon his death was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Harold graduated from Northwood High School in 1953. Following graduation, he farmed with his father until entering the Army in 1958, where he was a surveyor. He was stationed in Germany during his time in the service. He returned home in 1960 to continue farming with his father. In February of 1963, Harold was united in marriage to his first wife, Sara Clark. Through this union, two children were born, Lori and David. Harold found his calling as a law enforcement officer, graduating from the academy in 1970. He served the city of Northwood as a police officer and chief from 1970-1979. He then became a deputy for the Worth County Sheriff's Department from 1979-1994. After his retirement, he enjoyed serving as the Worth County bailiff from 1998-2008. Harold was united in marriage to Ruth Ann in August 1991. They enjoyed spending their time going to their campsite in Garrison, MN, attending auctions and multiple excursions to the casino; they also enjoyed a few cross-country trips with family. Harold was known for his storytelling, coin collecting, love of all things sports, especially the Vikings and Twins, and his calm demeanor. He loved giving everyone phony tickets when they had done something he disapproved of, such as going one mile over the speed limit or having a “poor attitude.” He was always up for a game of cards or cribbage and kept meticulous daily journals on everything from the weather to who came to see him. He especially enjoyed his visits with David Gentz and Larry Heagel as well as his golf cart rides with “the twins” Gail and Sue. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Johnson, wife Ruth Quisley, and son-in-law Jay “Marty” Graham. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Lori Graham of Omaha David (Christine) Quisley of Northwood. Stepchildren Jason (Amy) Squier of Edgewood, Nathan Squier of Mason City, and Kathy (Ryan) Gaetzke, of Kensett. Grandchildren include Jason (Lindsey) Graham, Jared (Amanda) Graham, Carolyn (Dannie) Graham, Tanna and Julia Quisley, Vanessa (Jordan) Squier, Ethan Squier, Chace, Mason and Libby Gaetzke.
