Dene Duenow

Dene Richard Duenow, 90, of Mona, Iowa, died on July 27, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Dene was born July 28, 1932 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa to Roy and Bessie (Berg) Duenow. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran Church. He graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa Senior High School and enjoyed being a 4H leader and a lifetime of farming. He also enjoyed playing pool with a group of friends weekly for several decades and was a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota where he served in multiple roles through the years and sang in the choir. Dene loved driving on long road trips in his car to see the countryside, often driving hundreds of miles in a day to look at farm crops around Iowa and in neighboring states. He’ll be remembered for his kind heart and love of animals. He is survived by his niece, Denise (Ron) Thurnau of Scarville, Iowa, nephew Dennis Duenow of Springfield, Missouri, nephew Donald (Bobbi) Duenow of Waverly, Iowa, niece Tracy (Rob Arnoldy) Bensend of Centerville, Minnesota; and nephew, Chris (Andra) Bensend of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Dene was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie; father, Roy; sister, Dorothy; brother, Dale; and twin sister, Donna. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 on August 28, 2023 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar with the Rev. Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa. Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30 on August 28 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
