Duane P. Abben, 89, of Little Cedar, died Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Per Duane’s wishes cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2022, at Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa with Pastor Sue Thomas officiating. Duane P. Abben was born April 28, 1933, in Northwood, the son of Bano and Bena (Gersma) Abben. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1952. On June 12, 1955, he married Mary Bower at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church and Riceville Country Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, playing card games and golfing with his son and grandkids. Duane played softball for many years and made it to the “Old Timers League” of 55 years and older. In earlier years, Mary and Duane loved roller skating. Duane enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Steve (Dell) Abben of Osage; daughters, Cindy Abben of Little Cedar, Tori Abben of Osage, and Deb (Rod) Reid of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Tabitha) Abben, Jennifer (Rick) Dunn, Jim (Nikki) Abben, Jamie (Chris) Cotton, Matthew Abben, Peter Borchardt and Kristy Borchardt; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Caldwell of Cedar Rapids. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; four brothers, Leland (Betty) Abben, Kenneth (Shirley) Abben, Harold (Norma) Abben and Millard “Bud” (Dixie) Abben; three sisters, Helen (Dale) Reckner, Elda (Lloyd) Bartholomew and Mildred (Ray) Rhodes and brother-in-law Claire Caldwell.
