Dorothy Darleen Simpson, age 98, of St. Ansgar, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar with Pastor Sue Thomas officiating. Inurnment will be in Osage Cemetery. Following the services, the family and friends will meet in the church hall for refreshments. Dorothy was born May 28, 1923 on a farm near Riceville, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Emery) Marvin. She attended country school near Orchard. She spent her summers working for her aunt and uncle on road construction. Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Simpson on February 14, 1942, at Lancaster, Missouri. They were blessed with 4 children, Sharon. Virginia, Beverly and Robert. She lived in Osage where she worked 8 years at the Maid-Rite in Osage. Dorothy got a job in housekeeping at the Mitchell County Hospital, where she worked for sixteen years, retiring on October 26, 1993.She moved to St. Ansgar, and worked at Good Samaritan Home for a while. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. She enjoyed making doll clothes, reading, taking walks, feeding the birds and watching the humming birds. Dorothy was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Sharon (Jon) Sayles and Virginia Glassel both of St. Ansgar; son, Robert (Lori) Simpson of Austin, Texas; fifteen grandchildren. Twenty-eight great-grandchildren and twenty-eight great-great grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis Pitz of Cresco. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beverly DeBleuwe; brothers, Lester, Leslie, Robert, Dale and Keith; sisters, Rosella, Lucille and Merle Crooks; and great great-grandson, Bentley Eugene Boerjan.
