LaVon Louise Lindflott

LaVon Louise Lindflott, age 100, passed away on April 2, 2025, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, IA. LaVon was born on February 3, 1925, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of William Elmer and Laura Mae (Eggleston) Smith. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Rockford, IA, and became a member of First Lutheran Church, Northwood, IA, in 1975. She graduated from Rockford High School and took classes at NIACC. LaVon worked as a cook in the Clear Lake Public Schools for many years. She was the first Activities Coordinator and Assistant Social Services Coordinator at the Lutheran Retirement Home for 20 years before retiring in 1992.

LaVon served and volunteered in many organizations: PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, 4X President of Women’s VFW Auxiliary in Clear Lake, President of Iowa VFW Auxiliary 3rd District, American Cancer Society (serving as President of the Worth County Board for several years), helped organize the first Worth County Relay for Life and Daffodil Sale, Advisory Council for Four County RSVP Board at Waldorf College (8 yrs), Northwood Kensett Reading Program tutor, Red Barn Top of Iowa volunteer (10 yrs), Sorosis Study Club member since 1972, First Lutheran Church Stephens Minister (calling on shut-ins and delivering devotion books).

LaVon married George Duane “Flip” Lindflott on June 2, 1972, in the United Methodist Church of Sioux Falls, SD. They enjoyed golfing, traveling the United States, spending several winters in Arizona, watching Iowa & Iowa State football & basketball, and the MN Twins. They loved spending time with family, especially attending grandchildren church and school activities. Flip and LaVon were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for 14 years at schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and several homes.

LaVon turned 100 on February 3, 2025. Family from around the country joined her to celebrate, but the highlight was a visit from her 3 “greats” – Charlotte, Beau, and Duke!

LaVon is survived by her sons, Thomas (Judy) Buck, Ronald (Ardonna) Buck, Larry (Honey) Buck, Monty (Stephany) Buck; stepson, Mark Lindflott; grandchildren, Lindsay (Brian) Thompson, Steven Buck, Jennifer (Bryan) Richardson, Chad (Laura) Hanson; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Beau and Duke Richardson; sister, Betty Cabalka; brother, Stan (Carol) Smith; nieces & nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, William & Laura Smith; loving husband of 47 years, George Duane Lindflott; brother, Donald Smith; half-brothers, LeRoy Smith and Luverne Smith; brother-in-law, James Cabalka; niece, Judy Smith; nephew, Larry Smith.

A celebration of LaVon's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Hoff Celebrations- Sites Memorial Chapel in Northwood. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
