LaDon Ivan Ellingson

LaDon Ivan Ellingson, age 72, of Glenville, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in Crane Lake, Minnesota. LaDon was born on September 23, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Lila (Lau) Ellingson. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1971. Following graduation, he attended Albert Lea Technical College studying auto mechanics. In 1972, LaDon was united in marriage to Patricia Williamson at First Lutheran Church in Northwood; they were blessed with two sons. The couple later divorced. LaDon was a crop and livestock farmer for his entire life and also worked at Wilson’s/ Farmstead for 21 years. After his dad retired, he took over the family farm and harvested corn and soybeans. LaDon was a longtime member of the Freeborn County Snowmobiling Club. 

LaDon had a fondness for the outdoors and enjoyed many days riding side-by-side, snowmobiling, fishing, trapping, and hunting with his family and friends. He was a simple and hard-working man who was proud of the home he built which served as a gathering place for all. He liked car shows and particularly enjoyed showcasing his 1969 Camaro and his ’77 Chevy pickup he purchased at a Mecum Auction in Kansas City. Above all, LaDon loved being a grandpa. His family was the most important part of his life. He attended many of their events and activities and especially enjoyed going to demo derbies with his sons. Most of all we will remember LaDon for the immense love and joy he brought to each of us. 

LaDon is survived by his sons, Shawn (Jenna) Ellingson and Kelly (Bridget) Ellingson, both of Glenville; grandchildren, Kaden, Damon, Jackson, and Breanne (Josh Mendel) Ellingson; siblings, Connie (Larry) Thompson of Glenville and LeRoy Ellingson of Clemson, South Carolina; his beloved dog, Lily; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lila; sister, Donna (Bruce) Mittag; and niece, Dorenne Hansen. 

The funeral service for LaDon will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at First Lutheran Church at 140 3rd Ave SW in Glenville, Minnesota. The visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Hoff Celebrations- Sites Memorial Chapel in Northwood, Iowa, 1211 South 10th Street Northwood, IA 50459 and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Albert Lea. Hoff Celebrations- Sites Memorial Chapel of Northwood, 1211 South 10th Street Northwood, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements.
