Horace Hans Hendrickson

Horace Hans Hendrickson, age 92, of Northwood, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Mercy One Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, from a severe stroke. He was born April 21, 1932, in the house on the farm where he lived his entire life. He was destined to have the name “Hans” as both grandfathers carried the name. He was the son of Irving and Gilma (Hanson) Hendrickson. He attended country grade school #4, Deer Creek Township and graduated in 1950 from Northwood High School. He helped on the farm during his growing-up years and when his father had a fatal stroke, Horace took over the farm duties at the age of 24 years old. The work included caring for milk cows, hogs and farming the land. He was one of those farmers who could fix almost anything. He was a lifelong member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed, married and his funeral service held there. As some might say, carried, married and buried. He married Ann Osmonson on November 14, 1970, and celebrated 54 years of living and working on the farm together. They enjoyed time in the bowling league, traveling, dancing, and sharing their faith. Horace always had a story to tell for any situation with his subtle sense of humor, wit, smile, and a twinkle in his eye.

Horace is survived by his wife, Ann; brother-in-law, Ron (Diane) Olson; sister-in-law, Sara (Pike) Osmonson; nieces, Jane (John) Ford, Susan (Matt) Cadile, Jill Osmonson, Jana Osmonson, Karin (Christopher) Harrison; nephew, Nathan Olson; seven great nieces, Sarah, Taylor, Abby, Hilary, Hannah, Halle and Autumn; two great nephews, Christopher and Hunter; and three great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ivadene Dale and Marcella Olson; father and mother-in-law, Denver and Irma Osmonson; three brothers-in-law, Jim Dale, Roger Osmonson and Gary Osmonson; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, Iowa, with Pastor Theresa Turnbull officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Hoff Celebrations – Sites Memorial Chapel in Northwood, Iowa and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
