Bernon Wayne Van Veldhuizen

Bernon Wayne Van Veldhuizen, age 84, of Northwood, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at his home. Bernon was born on May 19, 1940, to Ben and Margaret (Ver Steeg) Van Veldhuizen on a farm near Paullina, Iowa. He is the second oldest of ten children. On June 21, 1963, he married Jean Weyers in Maurice, Iowa. In 1968 they moved to Worth County, even though it was a Norwegian community, they welcomed a Dutchman.

Bernon served on many committees including Pork Producers, church council, Farm Bureau, Worth County Conservation, Thrivent, NRCS, Northwood Co-op Elevator, Lutheran Retirement Home, and the Worth County Fair Board. He enjoyed farming, fishing trips, trail rides with horses, tractor rides, and many years with Stone Soup. He also greatly enjoyed visiting with people. A stranger was never a stranger for very long. Bernon also enjoyed spending his time with his coffee drinking friends. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

Bernon is survived by his wife, Jean; children; Cary (Carol) Van Veldhuizen, Lorene (Dan Goble) Bolhuis, Mark (Trish) Van Veldhuizen, Julie (Tom) Pierce; grandchildren, Nicole, Dylan (LeAnn), Dylan (Zoe), Logan, Ethan, Justin, Aaron (Cierra); great-grandchildren, Case, Reeves, Alice, Remi, Dawson, Holden, Lucy, Jentry, Korbyn, Alvina, and another on the way; In-laws, Gary (Barb), Dr. Roger (Adonica), Norman (MaryBeth);bonus family, Brenda (Scott), Raevyn (Lane), Tristan and the Fiesta Village Family.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, Iowa. The visitation will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hoff Celebrations – Sites Memorial Chapel in Northwood. Burial will happen at North Shell Rock Cemetery following the service.
